Tuxracer and music cd

I'm a Linux Newbie. Running FC2. Upgraded two weeks ago to FC3. All went well (but took a long time).

Just noticed today that Tuxracer ran extremely slow (ran great under FC2) and when I put a music CD in either of my CD-ROMs I get a "drive error" and then nothing.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing Tuxracer via Synaptic. Now the screen resolution changes from 1024x768 to 800x600 or whatever (which is what it used to do) but then the game doesn't load, and the bigger desktop just sits there...have to control-alt-backspace to get out of everything.

Unsure what happened. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks. (Remember I am very green Linux-wise.)

I had the same problem when I tried FC1 or 2, can't remember which. I jsut tried it now in FC3 and it's also very choppy and slow- basically unplayable.

Is your video card running 3D accellerated graphics? I have usually found when Tuxracer is slow and choppy it is becuase 3D video is not enabled or supported with the driver.

I'll have to check. Don't know how to do that in FC. It's an ATI Radeon 7000. Thing is, it worked fine (quite speedy in fact) in FC2.

I did get the CD to play, however. Was playing around and used up2date. It found a repository that had the latest "udev" (Synaptic said I had the latest version; it lied I guess) plus the final release of Firefox. Had to reboot, but apparently the "udev" update I saw mentioned solved the cd problem.

Would still like to get Tuxracer to work; fun little game. Thanks for the help.
