system time in /var/log/messages

Hi,
Is there any way to change the printed system time in /var/log/messages
from sec (HH:MM:SS - like in fedora) to jiffies or uSec (like in ubuntu)?

AFAIK time printed in /var/log/messages is how Syslog interpretes it. Only thing comes to mind wrt uSec is a kernel compile-time setting in the debugging section.
