System Notifications taking too much time

I'm currently running FC5, and whenever i do something like close a program, or save a file, etc, either KNotify or CvsServer, or kio_uiserver pops up.
They seem to take way too much time to do their thing.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me : First of all, what each one of these are.
And second is it wise to try and turn them off, and how to do that.
Thanks

Knotify notifies the user of events. Kio_uiserver is a KDE progress UI server. CvsServer is a program to manage source code for a project. Did you try to install a bunch of stuff, but didn't know what it was. You can turn off CvsServer and configure Knotify to report less. I'm not sure about Kio_uiserver, but I would bet you can turn it off.
