system freezes then resumes after fglrx and kernel update

My system's mouse, audio and everything else freezes sometimes when i scroll in firefox or open load intensive pages.
This only started after i upgraded the kernel and installed the new fglrx drivers. I tried reinstalling them, tried installing them directly from ati, and went as far as to do a clean install with no avail.

is it possible to retreive older versions of software, particularly fglrx 5.12, and downgrade to 2.25.latest (required for older drivers).

This has been frustrating me to the point where im considering ubuntu...

nothing wrong with ubuntu! Maybe you should try setting your video driver to vesa in xorg.conf, it will reduce the quality of your graphics, but might help with troubleshooting..

I dont mean it like that... ubuntu is pretty cool, and i was saying if i cant fix this them thats my next move

anyways.. I did some more research and I've narrowed it down to compiz. the older 0.7.2 does hang or temporarily freeze, but the newer 0.7.6 does it ALL THE TIME. what should I do to fix this? the 0.7.2 does work better, but once every 5 min is one to many times, considering it use to work flawlessly.

Have to say, I don't bother too much with compiz, takes up too much RAM! Sorry I can't help you more.

Just switched to ubuntu, and...

I'M LOVIN' EVERY SECOND OF IT!

-Fixed the fglrx + compiz + 2.6.26
-Didn't have to downgrade X (partly Ati's fault, partly Fedora for going bleeding edge) to use fglrx
-I understand not wanting to use proprietary software, but they should consider doing what ubuntu does w/ fglrx/nvidia
-suspend actually works like it's suppose to

Maybe when Fedora 10 comes out, and if fglrx is supported out of the box, then i'll probably switch back.

on my fedora8 sys compz-fusiom uses almost NO system ram ,it is ALL done on my nvidia card
seeing as you have a ATI card and fedora9 i take it you have downgraded 9's xorg to that of fedora8.
seeing as ati dose not have a driver works in fedora9 with the new xorg
see:

Thx, but that's not the issue. I had compiz, fglrx and pretty much the perfect setup about 3 days ago, but after a driver, kernel and compiz update (from what i've seen, it's not just one issue, its proably a combo of both compiz and the new kernel), my rather awesome setup that got better everyday, went to hell.

I honestly believe it's a combination of hardware and software that caused my problem, seeming that nothing came up in google, and furthermore, seeing Ubuntu works flawlessly out of the box.
