Unhappy System fail to start after kernel update

Hi, I have a question about kernel update. Do I need to recompile the drivers for the kernel each time I update kernel? I recently updated kernel to 2.6.29.6 - 217.2.16.fc11.x86_64. When I booted into the new kernel, it displayed an error said that my wlan0 link failed. I think it is the drivers problem because I rebooted into kernel 2.6.29.6 - 217.2.8.fc11.x86_64 and it's fine. If it is the drivers problem, which command should I use to recompile my drivers to work with the new kernel? If it's not, please show me how to boot into the new kernel. Thank you.

i had this same problem and someone on this board helped me. I did have to recompile the driver or install the rpms and install. I had to do this only for the drivers that i downloaded and compiled myself to fix it. I chose to install from the rpms

i installed the rpm's then ran the yum -y install "driver" in my case kmod-nvidia

im new to linux, and dont know much just passing info, my post was yesterday if you want to read it.

the sticky post A must read, before installing Nvidia & Ati has the rpms for video cards
The below link has a good article in section 5 on making the xconfig file

You can also look at using a dkms module. Essentially it automatically rebuilds the driver against the first boot of each new kernel(once per kernel).

Thanks for the reply. Actually the members of Fedora Forum already helped me. I reinstalled my NVIDIA Driver using the rpm-fusion repository and rebooted successfully into the new kernel. Thanks anyway.
