Synaptic no longer opens

First, I got the Fedora APT file at http://freshrpms.net/packages/ and the RPM install was easy. Then I had APT update its database opening the Terminal becoming root and then typing apt-get update, then Enter. APT then checked my system and all was well.

The next thing I did was to install Synaptic, the graphical front end for APT, by typing as root: apt-get install synaptic That went well too and Synaptic was installed and I opened it and looked it over. The next day I went to open it again and it just wont launch from the start menu or the terminal. Very strange.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try posting the error messages from the terminal when you attemt launching it.
Don't forget to command su - first.

Also, you can try in the command line:
apt-get update = Get any lists of updates
apt-get -f upgrade = Fix any broken stuff
apt-get dist-upgrade = Update all installed stuff to the latest

See man apt-get

APT HOWTO

Thanks for the reply and your advice. Well, the error I get as su after typing in " run synaptic " is as follows:

(synaptic:4197): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkcursor-x11.c: line 238 (_gdk_cursor_destroy): assertion `cursor->ref_count == 0' failed

Try this:

Connect to the internet and run this sequence of commands in an x terminal and see if that fixes it.
Code:
Sun Mar 28 11:34 PM fancy@uilleann ~ $ su -
Password:
Sun Mar 28 11:34 PM root@uilleann ~ # apt-get update
