Strange thing about FC2 compared to Slack10

I notice after doing a new install of Slackware 10 and then a new install of FC2 on the exact same laptop. On the Fedora Core 2 install after all of the network was setup i would go to the network browse and nothing was showing, even after Samba was working. Now on the Slackware 10 install something totally different happened. I could launch a terminal and type in nautilus and i could then go to the network icon and there is all of my XP computers and i can browse every one flawlessly. So my question is this broken in FC2, and is there a way to fix it. I personally thought it rocked having that out of the box working with Slackware 10, but the rest of Slackware is going to take me many months to conquer.

It might be broken - I've certainly found network browsing to be highly unreliable with GNOME and FC2. It's impossible to be certain that the issue is Fedora without comparing the smb.conf from your Slackware install to your FC2 configuration.

You could well be running into problems with the replacement of smb with cifs.
