Unhappy Strange KDM Problem

I have installed F7 from the DVD and its running just great.
Yesterday , I changed login manager to KDM by doing this..

Quote:
vi /etc/sysconfig/desktop

wrote following two lines in it

Quote:
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"

I also set autologin for my user with a delay of 5 sec from Control Center .
When I boot , the user auto logs in fine, and desktop (KDE) is loaded. Now , when I logout , clicking on "End Currrent Session" , instead of gettin KDM login screen, I get a blank screen and nothing happens for a long time. --> so i have to hard reset

If I do "cntrl+alt+backspace" from KDE , it restarts X and I get KDM login screen , but not when I logout by clicking on "End Currrent Session"

Please help...

is it that I have changed to KDM in the wrong way!! I believe this method worked for me in FC5 previously.

Have you tried updating to the latest KDE packages for FC7. Recently there was a big upgrade of KDE packages and maybe the problem you are experiencing has been fixed in the latest packages.

don't know if it will help but try:

# yum install switchdesk
# switchdesk kde

See what happens now when you End Current Session

Try deleting kdmrc. It's in /etc/kde/kdm. I'm sure it'll get recreated the next time you boot.

Actually - better idea; move it to kdmrc.orig (or something like that). That way, you'll have an original copy if things go south.

Hello:

Here is a tutorial about how to set KDE integration on FC5: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...&highlight=kdm

Not exactly your flavor, but it worked for me on FC6. If you review it thoroughly, you may see some things that you may have missed....

Regards,
V

I followed the instructions from the link, still the problem persists. More over , I tried all the suggestions given here at a friend's PC. He has the same chipset as I do and there also the same problem was there.

This problem wasnt there in Fedora 5 or PClinuxOS or Ubuntu which I have tried. So looks like its Fedora 7 specific issue.
