strange - I can install Fedora 1, but can with .95
I think this is strange. First of all, let me say that I've downloaded the isos from 3 different sources (that's alot of DLing) because each time I figured thay were messed up. So, with 9 cds, I have checked ALL of the md5sums AND ran the media check on all of them - thay all came out ok.
why hde and g? Well - I wanted to spread my installs across 2 hdds - mainly for my swap (which I think never gets hit anyaway) but there are usually problems with cdroms on ide 3 or 4 so..... Everything has worked fine up to now.
OK, now the problem. The install of Yarrow seems fine. I choose my packages etcetc, partition my drive, format the partitions using ext3 (except swap of course) and it all goes fine up until that point. Then when it gets to the part "Transferring the install image to the hard drive" it comes back with an error "An error occurred transferring the install image to your hard drive. You are probably out of disk space."
HHAAAAAAHAHA! I don't think that is possibe!!
My partition setup was as such...
hde1 - 100 mb boot
hde5 - 10GB for /
hde6 - 5GB for /home
THEN
hde7 - 10GB for Slackware /
hde8 - 5GB for Slackware /home
hdg1 - 2048MB for swap
I had Slackware up and running fine.
I don't get it? I can install Fedora Severn .95 just fine at these partition settings...
And the Yarrow cds are fine, I just installed it on another machine.
Any ideas? I just deleted the whole drive - set up the partitions thae same as above (with cfdisk) and reinstalled Slackware on hde5 and 6 this time, Im now going to try Yarrow on 7 and 8. I have my doubts though - that's why I am posting now as to not loose a day on this.
I am not sure if you have sorted this problem out - but as it appears on the top of a google search I thought I would answer.
I had the same problem with a compaq/hp nx9005 notebook - plenty of disk space but still it suggested I might have run out of disk space.
After a bit of searching around I put
linux ide=nodma
at the boot prompt (the screen before the media test)
pressed return, and carried on and it worked and got past the drive image transfer bit.
I think it is something to do with the dma on the cdrom (or hdd perhaps) - I am sure the options could be refined to try one then the other - but I am not sure how - but the above does work.
I hope that is of some use to someone.
Regards,
G Bear

Thanks for the reply - after joining the Fedora list, I found the same answers from some people. But this was AFTER I got it to install..... Strangly enough, I had to pull 512mb out of my pc (had 2 sticks of 512ddr = 1024) and the install went with no problem. I tested the memory and it came out fine. So, something wasn't agreeing. I also ran into a few others that experienced the same thing. Possibly a bug? Who knows, but I will file something for bugzilla.
hey gmmi bear...ive got the same laptop...did u get past the crashes and the X problem with fedora?...im downloading it right now...should i install it? thx
