Strange DNS Resolution Problem

A newbie, I've just installed Fedora Core 2 on a second PC since I
believed I had learned enough not to jeopardize my main system.
However, as smooth as the installation on the older PC went, this one
has a problem with DNS resolution.

I get a good connect, kppp details show traffic back and forth when I
request a page. But no web page, mail server, nor ftp server is ever
found. I've tried this with two ISPs, both of which use the Automatic
DNS option in kppp. I've also tried disabling the default Fedora
firewall - all to no avail. I'm really stumped. What can be the problem?

Thanks a lot.

Trish

P.S. I can ping a DNS server - and my old system still works ok.

I had exactly the same problem today when i installed FC2.
I managed to solve this by manually adding the IP's of the DNS servers of my ISP in kppp acount tab.
I don't know why this is happening.
Must be something with the protocol.
