Strange behaviour on fedora16 - applications stop working after suspend.
This is a strange issue to describe, but I wanted to document in case some one could help me analyse and determine root cause.
working on Toshiba Sat Pro with f16
3.2.10-3.fc16.i686.PAE #1 SMP Thu Mar 15 20:37:01 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
In my work environment, I'm connected to LAN. No problems.
However when I Suspend the machine and then re start at home, strange behaviour occurs:
1/ evolution wont send mail
2/ sometimes evolution wont even display the mail in the inbox, get a spinning wheel and display message indicating trying to retrieve message with a long numerical index....
3/ internet connection works fine.
4/ I cannot launch new GUIs for certain apps, things like gedit, xemacs and so on.
5/ looked at dmesg and /var/log/* but see nothing noteworthy.
So I attempt to roboot.
1/ all windows appear to shut down ok but then the system just hangs on the fedora blue symbol. It does not actually reset.
2/ Finally I do a hard reset via the power button
3/ everything is fine after reboot, ie, can send mail and open apps etc etc.....
Would really appreciate any thoughts on this?
Another thing, is that I thought it might have been IPV6 related.
So I used these commands to disable.
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1
(and for permanent setting)
echo "net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1" >> /etc/sysctl.conf
This seemed to work initially but the problem is back now and repeatable when I log in at home.
If I login at work place after a suspend - there is no problem.
Any thoughts on what this might be in relation to?
EDIT: just to note there is no problem with network connection from home.
Web in fine via firefox and I can even remote tunnel to work.
