starup and shutdown on FC 7

I just installed fedora 7 on my thinkpad t61 with the nvidia card, for which I've installed the drivers. Most things seem to work. The couple of problems left are:

1. startx doesn't start automatically. I start off with the command line and have to manually type in startx on logging in.

2. Once "startx" is started; I don't see the option for "shutdown" in System. The options that I see there are:
Lock screen
Logout
Suspend

Every time I need to shutdown I have to manually login as root and then give the shutdown command.

Is there a way to fix the above 2 problems?

For number 1, you need to edit /etc/inittab and change

id:3:initdefault

to

Code:

id:5:initdefault

As for number 2, you only see the shutdown option if you start X from a login manager.

Just did that. It works now, but I get asked for the password twice. After the 2nd time, I get a message about having 644 permissions for $HOME/.dmrc
There's no file .dmrc in my home directory.
How do I fix that?
