have installed yahoo messenger for fedora and everything is working fine.
and now i just want ym not to open up automatically, my problem is i cant locate the setting where i could remove the program during startup, someone told me that it could be set on the session preference but i found nothing there.
just close ym, then click on log out (of Gnome or KDE or whatever DE or WM you are using) and make sure to activate "save current settings" and that's it

sir, i did exactly what you have told me but still ym start automatically. i think there is a configuration file for this..anyway, thanks.

Hmm, that's strange. Anyway, all startscripts should be in /etc/init.d, and links to those scripts are in the different rcx.d (where x standsa for 0-6 for the different runlevels) directories. If you find a script that starts yahoo then look in /etc/rc5.d if there's a link to that script. To stop that just rename it (making the first letter a small one will suffice)

yes sir, i went there (runlevels) checked each of the entry, everything is in place and no entry for ym, and of course tried to check also my rc.local nothing there..ym was installed at /opt directory and still wonder where that configuration are. its quite weird dont you think?
Couldn't something like this also be in a .xsession file somewhere? I would try searching your system for a file like this and check there for anything.
