Have you un-muted them in your Sound Mixer program? To get more help on this, you may want to provide details of what flavour of Linux you use, whether you use KDE or Gnome, which sound card is it and, whether you know which sound driver you're using ...

OK, here's something to try first. (I don't know Fedora, but I use KDE)
Open your sound mixer program. It's probably "KMix" and can probably be found somewhere in your main KDE menu under "Multimedia".

I'll assume you've got KMix (if you're using a different mixer program then it it won't be hugely different). If there are more than 1 sound cards in your system, make sure that your new 5.1 card is selected in the drop down menu on the top right. Also make sure that you're looking at your "Output" channels by selecting that tab near the top-left of the window.

The green buttons at the top of each channel show which ones are audible and which ones are muted. Make sure all the ones relating to your 5.1 outputs are un-muted, if you're not sure, experiment ... try turning them all on. Is it working now? If not, select the "Switches" tab in KMix and there maybe something there that needs switching on or off. (If you're worried you might mess things up by changing setting here, make a note of the original settings before experimenting).

Best of luck!
