Sound System troubles

FC7 X86_64

After rebooting I get this Error message about no sound:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

After a number of reboot attemps then I can get sound.

That's a tough one...

I Googled that fault and found that many people were never able to fix it. Most of them run Ubuntu but I did find the fault in older (FC1 & FC2) Fedora editions. I will continue the search for you but in the mean time can you please post your etc/modprobe.conf file (and any other config info that may help).

EUREKA!!! I'VE GOT IT
it's a bit cumbersome, but if you need to use your sound card constantly like I do, all you have to do is:

+ Open the terminal and enter "system-config-soundcard"
+ you may have to enter the root password, so do that now
+ check the box that says "loop" in the sound test section, and press play
+ if you don't hear anything, flip over to the last tab and click "reload audio drivers"
+ your card should work now

the only down side to this method, is that you have to do it every time you start up. Solution: don't turn off your computer.
