Sound card in Fedora Core 3

Hello!
I have read some posts about sound in FC3 but not exactly my problem.
The system doesn't detect the audio card (system conf --> audio card detection-->test sound, no sound. The card identification numbers are OK).
I plug in an audio CD, and it plays OK.
I do it with a video DVD, and it plays OK but without sound (with XINE).
I can see TV but without sound (TVTIME).
Up to three days ago the system detected the audio card, but TV and DVDs had the same problems.
The two installed volume controls are ALSAMIXER and Gnome VC 2.8.0.
Maybe I have moved any volume sets? I don't remember, but no one is muted.
Any suggestions?

Regards.

A lot of the time, the applications themselves default to using aRts (like xmms and xine). Try configuring the app itself to use the ALSA drivers.

Also, check to see if the arts daemon is popping back up in your processes. If it is, kill it.

ps -e | grep arts
kill [pid]

aRts kept respawning itself in my system, so I just removed support for it altogether.

rpm -e --nodeps arts

Edit: this is if you want to use alsa alone. I find it easier that way.

I have checked that aRts is not between processes.
In XINE I have fixed ALSA as sound device, but with no results. TVTIME gives no options to select .

So, the problem persist.

Thanks anyway.
