Sony Laptop Screen / Display Settings

Am trying to optimise my settings for my sony laptop to get optimum screen res of 1024 X 768. When installing Fedora core 2 it could not identify the correct settings and am using a generic setting of 800 X 600.

Have tried to set to a generic setting of 1024 x 768 for LCD and monitor and am getting bleeding charachters on screen.

Any Ideas which setting are best for this ?

It is a sony GRT815M P2.8 Laptop using an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5600 (64 mB)

Thank you.

I did not see an entry for your laptop at

http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/sony.html

Can you get it working at 800X600?

ebmaster 06-11-2004 12:16 PM

I can use it with 800 x 600.

I can also see an entry for my system on the site :

Sony Vaio PCG-GRT815M

If you scroll down you can see his XF86config file. HorizSync and VertRefresh rates are

HorizSync 29.0-65.0
VertRefresh 60.0

This should definitely help you. Now of course if you are using FC2 you will not have this file, you will have Xorg.conf.

I'm having the exact same problem as you, when you go 1024x768 the screen goes unreadable. I also tried the nvidia drivers, but they were no use at all!

Well, I've given up on Fedora and I'm off to use Madrake Linux. Got it working using the Option "NvAGP" "8". Fedora just doesn't want to work at all!

ebmaster 06-30-2004 06:05 AM

Which version of madrake you using ? Also, Is there a link you have for download ?

That's right, just edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Take a look at my Monitor section

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "ViewSonic E70fb-2"
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 30.0 - 70.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 150.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

and my screen section

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

You can edit all this numbers by hand.
