some questions about Fedora config

well i'm kinda new to fedora core 3. actually, it's been installed for less than an hour. and already, i have questions.

so the first one : how can i connect to internet? (yes, im a bit ashamed). i used to be on mandrake 10.1 and it was so easy. now in fedora, i found a something like "internet connection assistant" but all it did was to let me choose ethernet connection, then my ethernet card and that's all. it never asked for a login or a password. what would i have to do? (im using adsl stuff)

then im wondering how could i change my screen resolution? the only choices i have are 640x480 and 800x600 with a refresh rate of 61mhz. i dont like that. oh no. but then again, im going right now to install the lates nvidia drivers (i have a geforce 6600). so it may work. but im asking anyway.

and that's all i can think of.

so long, and thanks for all the fish

oh ok no ok. i made it. i just spoke too soon. sorry.
now internet's ok and my resolution too.
im feeling even more embarrassed.

but still, ive got some questions about it. for installing stuff. you know, mandrake had the .tar and .rpm files and i was quite acquainted with that. but how does it works with fedora core 3? i read yum somewhere i think... well yeah

thanks

I beleive that Mandrake is based on Redhat/Fedora. So any functionality with how RPMs and tar files work, should be the same.

Yum is a package manager that can be used to obtain new applications from the web.

Thats not entirely accurate. Mandrake is more like a fork of earlier versions (5.x) of Redhat. It was basically Redhat with KDE, but has since evolved into an entirely different distro with a lot of stuff thats incompatible with Redhat. You are right though that if you can use rpm on Redhat/Fedora, then you should be able to do the same on any rpm based distro, but Mandrake also has its own tools to deal with package management (urpmi/rpmdrake).
