Some problems/questions for Fedora Core 5 x86_64

I have a very fresh install of Fedora Core 5 x86_64 on my new PC (AMD Sempron 3300+, 512MBRAM, 80GB SATA HD, MSI Motherboard). Although I face some problems.
First of all to say that I choosed to be installed all the kind of libraries and compilers that were available in the DVD.
So, my problems are:

1) When I'm trying to get some of my Java applications to work, java or jar files, I get always errors while on my Slackware and on Windows everything works fine. The "Scanner" method for reading data is showing as error. I installed everything that had to do with Java from the installation DVD.

2) When I'm trying to run, or to install, from source by "./file" I get the error " /bin/bash: Not approprate interpreter: Permission Denied" and so I can't even install the JDK and JRE from Sun I have already installed on my Slackware which works fine.

3) When I'm connecting with my DialUp the connection is taking place but no data are received or transmmited after that. It worked 1-2 times but then nothing with doing nothing on the system. The firewall is disabled for http services.

4) A common one, NTFS and MP3 problem. Because of my slow connection to download everything from yum, is there a site that has those packets ready for download so I could download them with a download manager?

Well, that's all for now and any kind of help would be really appreciated

Thanks in advance!

1. That's the open source java. Its not as capable as the one from Sun. You need the Sun versions of java and jre.
http://www.fedorafaq.org/#java

2. The instructions to install sun java are very clear. You need to make the file executable.
http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml#rpm

3. Don't know. Sorry.

4. Install yumex. It has a GUI and will let you pick and choose the packages you want.

Thanks for your reply. I installed JDK and JRE from Sun but should I remove the open-source Java that was installed in the beginning and if yes how?

I suggest you leave gcj alone. I think there are a few packages that depend on it.

I had to use /usr/sbin/alternatives command to get the Sun version working with FC5. Found instructions here: http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc5-tips.php

I followed the instructions from the url Crito wrote and now Java works fine. Thanks! I have a problem now with Xmms and mp3. I installed both Xmms and mp3 plugin for Xmms but when I'm going to play an mp3 I get an error "No output selected" and when I'm going to preferences there are no output options.
