Hello everyone!

I am as happy as ever. After two days of reinstalling and recompiling I got my mouse working in Fedora core 2. As I have searched google and LQ and have posted my question regarding my problem here, and since it wasn't answered, here is an answer and solution to everyone having the same problem.

At install my mouse was recognized as a 3 button mouse. In FC1 it was a Wheel mouse.

My mouse didn't work during install, nor it started later. I have tried compiling the kernel and finally I succeded. I have compiled my mouse as a module.

Device drivers >> Input device >> [Y]Mouse >> [M]PS/2

After compiling i just loaded the module psmouse and it works. I just have to get it to autoload and that will be it. I almost gave up on FC 2, but I had to make it work.

NOT NOT NOT NOT !!!So if you are having the same problem, as I'm sure many of you do, try NOT NOT NOT NOTthis.

DISREGARD ALL AND GO A FEW POSTS LOWER WHERE A USER HAS MADE IT CLEAR THAT THIS CAN BE SOLVED BY ALTERING BIOS SETTINGS!!!

Thanks for posting your results. It is nice to see someone working to fix a problem they are having instead of whining and stomping off. Every distro, at release time, is always met with hundreds of posts moaning about this and that.

Fedora was conceived as (and is advertised as) a relatively bleeding edge test bed for Red Hat. Yet, when something doesn't work the forums get flooded by cries of anguish. To those folks I say - if you want to use something non-Microsoft but, don't want to learn any self-sufficiency skills and don't want to contribute to the process _buy a Mac_.

To all of the people like you, marghorp, I say - I hope you stick around. People willing to make a personal investment to help themselves seem to be outnumbered by the people who are only comfortable being needy.

I have to say what I saw in a joke.

A guy was acting like a computer helpdesk employee. Once he had solved the customers problem (by telling the customers 9 year old daughter how to configure outlook), he said something like: "Tell your daddy to go buy a Mac, they are specificaly designed for idio...., I mean mummys and daddys."

I had the same problem, but it finally went away when I disabled USB Legacy in my BIOS settings. (I didn't have this problem with FC1.) If it works, it's easier than recompiling the kernel.

Yes that was it. Thanks for telling me after 2 days of recompiling :P I did a fresh install and disabled USB Legacy in BIOS and it works like new.

To all: Please ignore my solution, or use it as a last resort. Try the solution of the above poster, for it works, and it is easier.

Hi, I just wanted to thank you both, modifying the bios worked for me, too. You might want to add the first message a warning, I almost started doing the kernel stuff

I also figured this out spending hours playing with my BIOS settings ! I noticed a lot of threads related to this topic - a lot is solved by disabling USB legacy support.

For XP I need to enable USB legacy and for MD 10.1 I need to disable USB legacy. This is rather inconveniant to alter every time I want to switch operating systems !

Any fix for this yet ?

I just reset the USB Legacy BIOS setting to auto and cold booted. My ps/2 scroll mouse is working fine with FC3 and the latest kernel 2.6.9-1.724_FC3. So something changed for the better since FC2. But I can't promise it will work for you.

I wonder if it's practical to try the Fedora kernel with your existing MD install to see if it fixes the USB Legacy issue. Just a wacky thought...
