Software update or Add/Remove Software does not work in LXDE
Hi all,
I've installed F15 Gnome 3 and after a while in using this interface, I decided I rather go back to the LXDE desktop. so I've removed GNOME and installed LXDE.
I'm not sure if it worked in GNOME 3 - but now in the LXDE I'm unable to install software using Add/Remove Software applet or check for software updates.
When I attempt to do so - I get an error message telling me that "Authorization failed" - it doesn't even prompt me for the root password and I've resorted to having to do the install of new software and updates through the command line using su and then issue the commands "yum install ..... " and "yum upgrade".
I installed from the F15 LXDE spin live CD, so YMMV. My first thought is that you may be missing polkit and/or lxpolkit. I use yumex if I want a gui, or yum from an lxterminal window to do my updates. The only problems I've encountered are due to my misconfiguring the repositories. I don't use PackageKit (I find it even slower than yumex), so I can't comment on it. I often use synaptic for deleting unwanted packages, but haven't tried using it for updating in quite a while.
