what is snort?
Snort(.org) is an IDS (Intrusion Detection System). It watches your traffic for anomalies and reports them.

Since you installed it to use it, probably yes.

if so is there a fix?
Look in your syslog (read /etc/syslog.conf: usually defaults to /var/log/messages) for clues why it fails to load.
