when I comment out the TLScertificate lines, and i use
# service ldap start it gives
Checking configuration files for slapd: config file testing succeeded
[ OK ]
Starting slapd: [ OK ]

there is also a line for slapd on ps aux

but when i do
#service ldap status it gives
slapd is stopped

and i dont think the service is listening on the required port (389)
