sending mail directly to another machine on the local network?

Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can send mail directly from one machine to another on the local network?

My ISP blocks me sending out e mail from my local machine so I can't recieve any of my daily logwatch e mails because they are sending the email directly from the machine.

Can anyone tell me how I can send that email directly to another machine on the local network, that I am using to serve my e mail via imap?

I have tried simpling doing

Mail -s "test" lmcilwain@remotelocalmachine
test

But I never seem to get the message.

Probably the MTA doesn't "talk" to the remote one properly. Usually a matter of configuration.

Basically run your SMTP and IMAP daemons of choice on a central LAN box and have other LAN hosts send email to that box. Of course you can send email to each and every LAN box, but that would mean running SMTP and IMAP daemons on each host which seems a wee bit inefficient to me.

Yes I agree that is inefficient to do, its only one other machine that I need to do this with. It looks like my ISP has started to let me send e mail again but they could shut it off at any time depending on the latest worm that is out. I will see what I can do to get that one box to work since its only needed for that one. I know nothing about sendmail so there a big learning curve there

Vote with your money I'd say. If they're not providing services you need, move on.

Basic Sendmail configuration should be easy for sysadmins like you ;-p
