Hi,

Welcome to LQ
It's not safe to login and work as root in the GUI
However take a look at

the root login to the GUI was disabled back in fedora 11 for security reasons
Gnome disabled root login also

if you need to login as root use the TEXT only " int 3" mode

but i have not found a good reason to do that , except for the second boot with a NEW install - only sometimes- and to fix a fubar'ed system .

eureka !

I got the solution, now it is succesfully opening through root user in GUI Fedora 13. Here is the soltion;

edit by removing or commenting by hash symbol the below mentioned lines in the given directory

login by root through terminal or console
go to /etc/pam.d directory, here you'll find 2 files named as gdm and gdm-password. In both the file comment this line as below;
#auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet

and now check the same.

Upto fedora 10, we need to edit only gdm file but from fedora 10 onwards we have to edit both gdm and gdm-password file.

Thanks...bye

you do realize that some things will not work right in the root gui .
like "add and remove software " might not authenticate
pgp night not make keys
and so on...

also pam is not the only thing stopping root login to gnome
Gnome is also root disabled in the gui so somethings might not work
you have been warned !!!

Why do you want to login as root in the GUI?
Why not use the terminal and become root if needed?
