[help] rhythmbox won't play mp3 files
i have a completly fresh fedora core 1 installation...what do i need to do in order to play mp3's in rhythmbox..i have them working in xmms but i can't, for the life of me, get them working in rhythmbox...i tell it to load all the files in a certain directory and they don't even come up in the library
|
installed xmms player for red hat 9, it works
|
that was a very bad answer...in fact, it wasn't a answer at all..
i installed the lib files to get xmms working but RHYTHMBOX won't work... i know it needs to be complied using xine or a fixed gstreamer and i got as far as it almost compiling, but it shit out and i coulnd't figure it out. |
ive never been able to get rhythmbox running under redhat (i haven't tried too much) but a friend told me he had to download the latest gstreamer stuff, and it worked.
im installing fedora now, and i might actually switch to it, and im gonna hack around with running rhythmbox with xine support. its better with xine anyway. |
awesome... i've been trying to get it runnin with xine support too..
feel free to IM me (contranj) maybe our 2 heads combined can figure it out if i get it to work i'll be sure to post a faq or some kind of guide to get it working |
well, i thought i had it
i downloaded all kinda of mad stuff (mad, libmad, libid3tag) and installed xine. when i do ./configure --enable-xine it says that it compiles with mp3 support with xine backend. i think that means it will work. but when i do the make, it gets nasty errors. im going to continue fighting with it and see what i can do. i put you on my buddy list, but didn't see you on btw, are you contrasutra that i know??? |
Got It working
Didn't take much effort to get rhythmbox working in Fedora with mp3 support, download xine thru apt from freshrpms.net (including xine-lib-devel) make sure you got all the other packages you need and run ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-xine
type make and it will work straight off ;) |

May be this thread will help you to get it to work, haven't test it myself.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/114094 It works! :) Just download the rhythmbox from freshrpm instead of using the one supplied with Fedora. |
