rhgb recompile

I would like to enable rhgb under other runlevels besides 5. I am wondering if anyone can forsee a problem if I recompile rhgb to also run under init 4 as a test first? In this runlevel(4) X is run from bash from an automatic login using mingetty so X should be properly detected from rhgb.

EDIT: Works great! However instead of quitting rhgb from prefdm it should be done through rc.local for all runlevels other than 5 as prefdm handles the quitting of rhgb normally. Useful only for those who don't want runlevel 5 but still want a graphical loader and auto login to X. Also handy for those who need automated rotation but your graphics card doesn't support randr(two xorg.conf's and a script handle the automation).

EDIT#2: I would write a multipart howto but I fear no one needs any of these features but me. Please delete this thread.

I thought rhgb would work when booting into any runlevel as long as this is appended to the kernel section of your grub.conf. Also threads are not routinely deleted because they may benefit other people in the future.

Actually in FC4 they hard coded the rhgb source to runlevel 5. So even if you had that in the options rhgb ignored it. I tried hard coding it to 4 for testing before makeing it work in all.

Feel free to write a Tutorial about it and post it in the Tutorials section. The thread doesn't need to be deleted - it's not offensive or anyting like that.

Would it be ok if I seperated them into 3? 1) using rhgb in other runlevels 2) rotating your screen when randr doesn't support your card 3)autologin to x without gdm, kdm, etc. I think it may be a bit more useful and flexible that way.
