"Restart" shut-down sequence doesn't

Hard disc went to the Great Motherboard in the Sky this weekend so I had to install Fedora 10 (kernel 2.6.27.5-117) on a new IDE hard drive in my computer.

In the process of installing, I must have done something to the shut down sequence. Specifically, I go to the shut down process and if I select "Shut Down" the machine shuts down. Fine. If I select "Restart" however, it goes through the process of closing things down and at last says "Machine Restart." It never restarts, though, just stays there, and I have to physically power off the machine and power it back on, defeating the purpose of "Restart".

So what do I need to change in which files where to get the shut down process to allow restarts?

"Log out" and "switch User" are fine.

Thanks,

Moxieman

When it 'hangs' again do: Alt + Ctrl + F1 if there is any output there copy it (or write it down) and paste to this thread. Also check Alt + F2 (up to F6) for any messages and post them. To reboot the machine when it hangs try: Alt + Ctrl + Delete instead of using the power button to shutdown.

Keyboard is not responded to when the machine reaches that point and says "Machine Reboot" (or "Machine Restart" - I'm not at my desk now), so I have no error codes to give. Ctl-Alt-Delete does not work for the same reason.
