Hi,
I have installed VM Ware in my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop which has ATI Radeon 1300 graphics card. My host OS is WinXp. Inside VMWare i have installed Fedora Core 7. The problem is it always show the message "you have not installed VMWare tools please install it for better resolution", although i have installed VMWare tools. Although the highest resolution is 1240*800 (i think) ,but inside FC 7 it shows only 800*640 resolution and when i select "stretch fit" the resolution is pretty bad.
Can anyone please suggest me if it is possible to get the same resolution(i.e 1240*800) inside FC7?

Is the little "vmware tools" icon running in the system tray ? I've had the vmware tools install fail on linux guests all the time. I finally just switched over to virtualbox, and haven't had any problems since.
Good luck...
David
P.S. virtualbox also has a pretty cool "seamless mode", so all your guest apps just sit on the desktop like native apps, not in the VM main window.

Ahhh... you don't really have vmware tools installed then, I think. Virtualbox is opensource, they have a free as in beer closed source version as well, if you require usb support, otherwise I would just use the OS version. They have windows and linux versions available. Here is a link...
Hi David,
It worked !!!!! Thanks a lot !!! Yesterday i installed virtualbox and installed Fedora core 7 as guest OS. After installing "VirtualBox additionals" my resolution is same as host OS(i.e 1280*800). But it had one little problem, i have 15.4 inch screen diagonally, sometimes the guest OS stretches to full screen and sometimes it just in square form, can you please tell how can i can strecth to full screen when i want?

Check what you are using as the modifier key. I think it's F11 by default. Then to go to full screen just press F11+f and that will toggle to fullscreen mode and back. F11+L toggles you back and forth from seamless mode.
Glad you like it..
David
P.S. I almost always use the linux host version, so I'm not sure if the options are the same in the windows host version. You should be able to look up exactly what the modifiers keys are if they aren't the same. You can change them too in the settings or preferences.
Hi David,
Yesterday i changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in FC7 and include the resolution as "1280x800" and restarted the XServer, and after that resolution was perfect, same as host OS.
Thanks a lot for telling me about VirtualBox.
Its really nice :-)
Have a nice day!!!!!
