Reinstalling KDE

I have a system with RH9 installed... a few weeks ago I tried to uninstall the GNOME desktop, but that uninstallation was erroneous... and I wasnt able to uninstall it completely...

Now last week I tried to upgrade to KDE 3.2 ... I downloaded all the required rpms from the site and from the non graphical mode(telinit 3) I gave the command

rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm

this installed the rpms ....

but when I rebooted the machine after entering the login name and password it displays the error message ...

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings daemon...

The daemon retarted too many times.

The last error message was

Failed to activate 'OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon'

GNOME will still try to restart the settings daemon the next time you try to log in

I am unable to log into KDE...

what should I do now...

Should I remove the KDE3.2 files and reinstall the KDE from the RH9 CD? IF so how should I ensure the complete removal of GNOME and successful installation of KDE???

well, I would boot to failsafe mode and re-install teh KDE and Gnome from the RH9 or Fedora ones.... but when I install stuffs, I dun normally use nodeps, cos, if there are something missing, it tend dun work properly, so, I would say when there are deps missing, go to

http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/

and search for related RPM....
