I am missing something here.
Does your mouse work in terminal (console) mode (Ctrl-F1, not Xwindows)?
If you comment your mouse driver out in the X config does X start-up?
Any messages in the log files? - and dmseg?
What mouse are you using? There are at least three byte ranges of protocols alone.
Are you working as root or user and are you working on the correct config file?
If you plug it in and out, could kudzu see it? (- I don't know if it still is kudzu with FC5)
