random fc3 lockup

has anyone been having any problems with fedora core 3 x86 randomly crashing? i just installed it earlier and its crashed at least 15 times today. the keyboard and mouse will freeze and sometimes the screen will get distorted up top. i have't been able to figure out why. im updating all the packages right now, i doubt that will help though, im somewhat of a newb. my system duel boots with windows xp and its stable, so i dont think its a memory problem. anyone have any ideas?

the mouse freezing and screen distortion could be caused by bad video drivers...download the latest drivers for your card and compile them...as for the crashing of Fedora could be caused by a bad install...when you boot the computer is there any thing on the screen that would suggest that there is somthing wrong? maybe somthing that is an error but system continues to boot? if there is than that might be your problem.

i doubt its a bad install though, i allready reinstalled it and its pretty persistant. but getting the nvidia drivers sounds like a good idea, i'll try that and see what happens.

ok...also just to make sure it's not the RAM...boot off the install CD and type in "linux memtest86" at the console...I suggest starting this before you goto bed and then let it run all night....then in the morning see how many times it passes the tests...if there are any failures at the test then the whole crashing of the system might be the RAM.
