Radeon 9800 drivers in Fedora Core 2

I've been looking around for information on how to install the ati drivers for Linux from ati's site, and I must say I am really confused. On Ati's site, there is something called Check.sh , but I don't understand how to use it, coming from a Windows world. There is also a How To that says to "cd to the directory containing the ATI Driver rpm package" but i am not sure what that means. Then I am to issue the command "rpm - Uh --force <ati package name>.rpm", so I put in the package name which is "fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0.i386.rpm" and try to do that as a command in a terminal, but it says that there is no such file or directory.
Pretty dumb, I know, but I can't figure out what to do...

Also I've read about how people have had to compile the kernel or install a patch in order for these drivers to work, but I don't how I could do that either.

If someone could please help me by explaining this process in the simplest terms possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time

check.sh is a bash script to detect your current X windows version i think, run it from the command prompt as follows (remeber to be logged in as root):

sh check.sh

cd to the directory with the package means you need to make your working direcrtoy the one to which you download the package, which is probably your home directory (mine is eric so its /home/eric)

cd /home/eric

once your in the directory with the RPM file issue the command which you have in your post to install the driver

let me go on record as saying i have never had good luck with ATI's propritary drivers. i just installed fedora 2 and for the first time unreal 2004 and quake3 work without me having to mess with opengl or any drivers.

good luck let me kno if you need more help.
