Problems upgrading nVidia card in fedora 15

I have just upgraded my machine from a GeForce 6600 to an GeForce GT 440. After the install, everything seemed to run fine except the KDE desktop. glxgears ran better than before, but KDE had to disable desktop effects and my window's title bars are still disappearing when I mouse over them.

Is there a procedure for installing new hardware?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you use the proprietary or the free driver? AFAIK, the free driver needs some firmware to work properly with cards from the 400 series and higher.

When you say you 9installed the card, did you just plug it in, or did you install a new driver for the new card?

If not run xorgwiz and configure for the new card.

TobiSGD, I think you're right. Looking at the Xorg log, the nouveau driver identifies my card as a generic 400 series card. I have been looking for the firmware, but I can't find it for Fedora 15. Does anyone know where to get the firmware?
