Problem with swap during Fedora 8 upgrade

Hey folks,

I'm trying to update a system from Fedora 2 to 8 since I can't find a driver for my new RAID card that works on Core 2. Unfortunately, Core 8 doesn't seem to like my swap partition as specified in /etc/fstab.

I've already read this thread (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...e-swap-602229/) on a very similar subject however, the solutions provided in that thread haven't helped.

I tried converting the /dev/hd* references to /dev/sd* but that didn't help the install and it prevented the current install from loading the swap.

I also looked into using the -L option for mkswap to label the partition but it seems that mkswap in Core 2 does not have the -L option.

So I'm looking for some help. Is there a way to convince the Core 8 installer my swap is OK? Or do I need to upgrade to a version between 2 and 8 before I can upgrade to 8?

Thanks,
Corin

You can probably use a current liveCD to label your swap partition. The Fedora 8 install CD or DVD might have an option to boot into a repair mode. I am pretty sure that the knoppix live CD has the mkswap command on it.

Couple of simple ideas (KISS usually works best):
- get rid of the swap altogether. Let the installer create a new one.
- go grab a liveCD and add the label.

Removing the swap file certainly helped but now I'm stuck on another problem. Once the installer gets to "Checking dependencies in packages selected for installation..." it gets about 1/3 of the way through and stalls.

Any ideas on how to get past this?

Thanks,
Corin
