Problem with SB sound card (SB 7.1 24-Bit)

I apologize if this is the wrong thread about my problem...

I recently installed Fedora Core 3 and have it dual booting with Windows XP... Previously I had an onboard sound card which worked fine in a previous install for Fedora Core... Recently I purchased a new PCI sound card (mainly due to issues with sound and my TV Tuner card) that is a Creative Sound Blaster 7.1 24 Bit...

The problem comes in that Fedora does not detect the sound card at all... I've tried searching threads here on the forums and tried some of the things here but nothing seems to work... Is this card supported at all by Fedora?

When I run the command "scanpci" I get the following:

pci buss 0x0000 cardnum 0x0d function 0x00: vendor 0x1102 device 0x0007
Creative Labs Device Unknown

Any help to setup my sound card would be greatly appreciated...

Gee, 7.1 sound. I’ll bet that’s hot off the assembly line.

First, look at the manufacturer’s support site for linux drivers. They write the initial drivers, not the OS people.

As a point, I don’t remember a micro$oft CD included with my last motherboard. The drivers came from VIA Technologies by way of Asus for the window$ USB, sound, LAN, etc. Just like in window$, truly new/novel hardware is rarely supported in linux distributions, but support usually becomes generally available over the first 6-12 months.

If the manufacturer has no drivers (which can be sung to the tune “Yes, we have no bananas"), you are going to have to poke around the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) at http://www.alsa-project.org for some drivers. It’s not as bad as it might sound, no pun intended. See if you can find your card at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc or try something from the list that might be close enough to work.

Also, always try to direct your purchases to hardware vendors who support linux with drivers.
