Does X boot or do you receive the GUI?

I've received very similar errors when one of my drive controllers fails. (I have one that's quite sensitive to heat.) Strangely, the drives that go off-line are hdg and hdh, and the devices are, I thought, created in hdb (where my boot, root, and swap partitions are located).

After the messages, I usually get a "kernel panic," and have to power off for a while to let the drive controller cool down.

Well, one error said

Code:
/sbin/init:/lib/libc.so.6:versio 'glibc_2.3.4' not found(required by /liblibswpol.so.1 libselinux.so.1
Do you have glibc installed? If so, what version?

Code:
rpm -q glibc

Enter the command suggested. If your GUI hasn't started, you should get something like:
Code:
# rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.3.5-10.3
(I've shown my output from the command run on my system; you're output may differ.)

If the version (2.3.5-10.3 for me) is less then 2.3.4, do a
Code:
# yum upgrade glibc
to upgrade to a more recent version.

Note: This assumes that you have yum installed and configured. If not, search in these forums for information on installing yum.

Comment/Suggestion: If you have a good, high speed, Internet connection, consider doing a yum upgrade (with no other argument) to bring your system and software completely up to date.
