Problem on starting KDE desktop, Init 5

Hi folks,

FedoraCore3

After an accident it took prolonged time to start Init 5 (X-window-KDE desktop)

- starting GUI login screen :- about 15 min
- starting KDE desktop : another 8 min

After KDE deskop started, it can't work there. Clicking/selecting the Menu with mouse pointer has no response.

After GUI loging screen started, from there selecting;
Shutdown --> Shutdown

The screen just hung with a pink bar appeared at the bottom. PC was still turn-on.

What I can recognised at the begining of booting was following line displayed on screen;
.....
Setting default font (latercyrhab-sun16) [OK]
.....

If IIRC, there will be trouble on booting Init-5, KDE desktop, should the above line appeared.

There is no problem booting Init 3 on turn-on the PC and from there to start X-window, Gnome.
(I haven't tested KDE desktop there. I forgot "Kstart"/"startk" ?)

The accident was caused while playing around installing "Grub" bootloader on USB pendrive plugged in an USB port on a USB 2.0 PCI Controller. After changing drive;

# cd /mnt/sda1
# grub

find myusb

(hd0,0)
# setup (hd0,0)
(I left out "root (hd0,0)" before "setup (hd0,0) )

the screen then hung. I have to press a hard-reboot.

Please advise how to fix this problem.

To umount /dev/hda2 (FC3 OS) after booting up Init 3 whether to run "umount /dev/hda2" then to run "fsck /dev/hda2" ?

TIA

B.R.
