Problem's running 2 screens on Fedora, xorg.conf problem?

Hey everybody, this is my first post. I'm a decently new Linux guy, and have learned most everything I know from man pages and reading through countless internet resources, as well as endless tinkering.

Anyway, I have a problem. I've recently tried embarking down the dual-display path with Fedora 7.

I am running a ATI 9600 Series dual-head card, with a CRT and an LCD attached, both capable of running 1600x1200. I usually boot GNOME, and have spent about 6 hours trying different things with my xorg.conf. I figured, now is a good time to stop being a lurker, and say some stuff.

Anyway, I've attached my current xorg.conf file, as well as the output from my lspci file.

Code:
lspci
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600] (Secondary)
Code:
xorg.conf

with this config, i get the two screens to clone eachother. Anything in there look wrong?

Wait so with that config you are successfully getting a dual head display working? Are you trying to get it where you have 1 monitor with the main desktop and a 2nd monitor that you can drag windows over to? With that config what exactly is happening when you boot? Do you get the 2nd monitor working? Does X not even come up at all?

Side note: based on your output of lspci your video card section should read like this. Also be sure and use /var/log/Xorg.0.log to troubleshoot dual monitor setups. It will tell you exactly why a dual monitor isn't working. Only line I changed is PCI:1:0:1 for the 2nd video card section.

What is up with that?

Also, worth mentioning, my motherboard does have an onboard video card, which i totally forgot to mention.

Okay before I can look it over how do you have both of your monitors hooked up? Are both connected to that single Radeon card? Most Radeon cards have 1 VGA and 1 Tv-Out or DVI connection. Do you have anything plugged into the onboard?

Okay try this out. I'm kinda guessing b/c I don't know the specific setup you have. If you have both monitors connected to the same vga connection (in other words a Y-adaptor) then you're going to have to use the ATI specific driver. Go to www.ati.com and download the driver that supports your card. Don't download the latest version as it probably won't support your card. Once you install it, it will give you instructions on what to run post-install. You will need a copy of your kernel src installed for this as it will need to compile the module. Let me know if you have to go down that route and I can help you out. Try this config below and reboot. You shouldn't need a section in your xorg.conf file for your onboard videocard if you aren't using it

Section "Device"
Identifier "D_radeon0"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard Vendor"
BoardName "ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600]"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "D_radeon1"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard Vendor"
BoardName "ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600] (Secondary)"
BusID "PCI:1:0:1"
EndSection

Nothing connected to the onboard.

My Radeon card is an All-in-Wonder, and this specific card has two VGA outs, as well as a composite and s-video out.

I have the VIVO cable (Y-cable), which has the 2 VGA's out, which both of my monitors are hooked up to.

As for the ATI proprietary driver, I've already tried installing it. It builds the module ok, adds it to my Xorg.conf (Driver "fglrx") but then no matter what, X fails to start. I'd rather stick with the open drivers if possible, because they are more supported than ATI's.

I haven't seen stock "radeon" driver support for using dual view with the VIVO cable. You are going to have to use the ATI drivers which is "fglrx". Use this link as a starting point for diagnosing further. The new ATI driver has a nice installer as opposed to the prior versions.
