Printing to Windows printer asks for user/password
 

I have gotten FC2 set up on my laptop and finally gotten my wireless card working - I can view the network "neighborhood" just fine using samba, lisa and Konqueror, including looking at the WindowsXP machine that has the printers connected (I can do this without having to use any user name or passwords). I tried using the Gnome Print Manager (is there not a KDE equivalent, or is the gnome one showing up because I logged into gnome and did some stuff prior to switching to KDE?). In the Print Manager, I went to Select a queue type and selected "Networked Windows (SMB)" and it finds both printers connected to the Windows machine - but when I try to connect to one to "install" it, it asks for the user name and password - but nothing I enter is accepted - I have tried the Windows administrator account and password, as well as a user account and password (that has admin priveleges). I enabled password encryption in smb.conf with no affect (I created the smbpasswd file, but didn't do anything with it yet?). I am a newbie, so I am probably missing something basic, but does anyone have any idea about this username/password issue. As I said, to browse the same computer, I don't have to use a name and password, so it seems odd that I would for the printer. Should I be using CUPS or something?
As another point of information, I have not set up any name resolution, so when I browse to the Windows computers it is by IP address.

Another quick(?) question - I have several Windows machines that lisa/Konqueror see fine, and the only one that needs a user/pass to connect is a Win2000 machine that I have not been able to get configured to not require this - but I can enter a user and password and connect to this share just fine. I use this as a server for my mp3 files and some other common files - is there a way I can save the user name and password so that fstab can auto mount this share automatically at boot?

... perhaps and i am *NO* expert on this.. you need t0o set the printing permisssions on the windwos boxen....

as to your mounting your mp3s automagically... i *THINK* theres a program called automount which will do this... failing that... write a bash script to mount the filesystems at boot... it would look somthing like this

#!bin/bash
mount ADDTHECOMMAND YOU USE TO MOUNT THE SERVER

save ^ that in a file called smbmount.sh or somthing, then type:
chmod 755 smbmount.sh
cp smbount.sh /etc/init.d
rc-update add smbmount.sh boot
