portmap in fedora 7
 

Hi,

I m unable to find portmap service in fedora 7. Have looked through the official repositories...but no luck. AFAIK there it is not possible to use nfs without portmap.

any help would be appreciated.

portmap is installed by default, always, to my knowledge... you don't necessarily *need* portmap for nfs, as you can hardcode the ports in /etc/sysconfig/nfs, but $10 says /sbin/portmap exists already, and if not the rpcbind rpm is on your distro cd's.

Manish is right...there isn't any portmap installed in fedora 7. No manual entry for it, can't start the service either...i dunno much about linux...will any portmap package work or will i have to download one specifically for fedora 7?? Oh and same question for mpi as well...that's not included in the installation at all due to bug issues (said so in the release notes)...will any lam/mpi version work or does it specifically have to be for fedora 7?? really sorry if this is a dumb question...oh and btw...nfs does work on my system...nis won't though...neither will lam/mpi

now i'm actually *on* fedora 7, i can say for definite that portmap is replaced by rpcbind. it will do the same thing, so do not install the odler portmap packages.

Thanks a lot. I'll see if it works. I can use rpcbind for NIS right?? And any idea about the whereabouts of ypserv??

The rpcbind does the same work that portmap is supposed to do.
