Ping / Connectivity question
Hi, I'm having problems connecting a unix server at a remote location through telnet, ftp. When I ping I get the following response. Notice how the ip address changes. From a Windows workstation on the same network I'm able to connect but not the Fedora Core5 box. Any suggestions?
Thanks [root@server ~]# ping xx.xx.xx.205 PING xx.xx.xx.205 (xx.xx.xx.205) 56(84) bytes of data. From xx.xx.xx.204 icmp_seq=1 Packet filtered From xx.xx.xx.204 icmp_seq=2 Packet filtered |
- the 204 is probably you.
- The 'Packet filtered' means that the remote network is dropping pings for some reason, maybe too much traffic, etc... but ask the remote admin |
have you tried a traceroute on the IP to make sure you're reaching it from the Fedora box? Also, the remote box might have kernel IP filtering enabled.

The traceroute gets there. Would the ip filering block telnet and ftp from the linux box and not from the windows pc?
Thanks |
