php-json fedora 5

I've been trying to get the php-json extension installed on Fedora 5 with no success. In package manager it fails with dependency errors. When compiling from source, after upacking the srpm I get an error in the ./configure script that says it wants to see the php configure. As far as I know it doesn't exist on that machine as php was installed via RPM.

Why does it need it? Does anybody know how I can resolve this?
