Question Performance of KDE in Fedora

Hello,

I got Fedora setup on one of my computer for one week and I am using mainly KDE, but some of my friends told me that the support for KDE might not be the best under Fedora ???
I know that Gnome is the default and that Fedora help in its devlopment but still for me (on my config) KDE is working much faster than gnome and I was able to customyze it as I wanted...

So here is my question : do I have to expect some limitations using KDE with Fedora does the performance are not as good as on some other distributions ? I am wondering and would like to be sure that I will not have issues using KDE, otherwise I might switch to gnome it is not too late since it just make one week that I got Fedora setup, but I don't want to face issues in one month when I will be used to it with all my customyze stuff in place . I personnlay prefer KDE to gnome so I hope I will be able to continue to use it!

The fact that gnome seams to be slower than KDE is that normal or just specific to my hardware ? I got an old AMD duron 1300 Mhz with 372 Mo of RAM.

Thank's in advance for your feedbacks...

I just got Fedora setup for a week and I didn't had much time to spend on it yet, so I wanted to make sure that using KDE will not be a bad choice and that it will not require that I switch back to gnome... It will be anoying for me to switch back after a few weeks because of Fedora / KDE bugs if there are some...

And as I prefer KDE I wanted to make sure that using it with Fedora would not be problem for me, I was asking that because some of my friends using Fedora told me that gnome was the best choice for this distribution.

It is also true that since so far everything is working fine for me I should not bother but I am probably pessimistic and I want to make sure i will not get in trouble in the next weeks , if it's the case I could still go back to gnome but it s better to know it before from other user experience...

Thanks anyway for your reply

All I can say about KDE in Fedora is to watch when changing your sound configuration from within the control center, because it can crash. Since Fedora doesn't get sound working out of the box a lot of the times (search the forum for FC3 sound problems...), I think a lot of users navigate to that area to change what KDE uses for its sound server/driver. So basically this isn't a Fedora issue in particular (more like a KDE 3.3 out of the box issue), but Fedora users are "attracted to" running into the bug.

I've been running FC3 for about 5 months now with purely KDE, and I really don't have too many problems. I'm sure a lot of other users in this forum are in the same boat.

Thanks for your reply , I got the sound working fine, but I am glad that you says that KDE is working fine for you as well... I hope it will be the same for me, I am used to it so I would prefer not to switch to gnome

I also have seen on other post that KDE was not having any compatibility issues under Fedora. This make me feel better...

Thanks again for your replies
