Partition Magic eval not making partition
Hi,
I am trying to install Fedora Linux on my Dell Laptop. Currently thrs a single 70 GB partition (NTFS) and I need to resize this. parted (provided with Fedora iso) doesn't resize NTFS partitions so I am using partition magic. But it doesn't seem to have any effect, as in I resize the partition but they don't take effect. I thk this is because actions are disabled in the eval version. Do I need to purchase the full partition magic version? Any other windows based freeware to resize NTFS? Tx, Sid. |
Mandrake can resize NTFS partitions. You could download the first disk and use that.
Be sure to defrag/scandisk first though. And of course, backup all important data. |
So u mean just use the mandrake first disk to resize and then continue with fedora parted for making linux partitions?
|
The eval version of Partition Magic doesn't actually do anything - it just shows you whats available. You have to get the full version to actually make changes.

Thought that was the case...Am I right in assuming that fedora .iso doesn't provide any option of ntfsresize?
|
Right. NTFS resizing is not available during the fedora install.
I never did it but check out this doc concerning the other posters advice to use the first Mandrake disk. |
fedora doesnt even have any ntfs support. even if you wanted to browse an ntfs partition you would have to download the driver and then mount the ntfs partition, obviously this is for licensing issues.

Actually its dead easy to get NTFS support in Fedora because you can just download an RPM then add the partition to your etc/fstab and its there on the next bootup
But apparently its very unstable at writing but ive read loads of times without any problems |
