Have Fed 23 on 64 bit UEFI and tried to play a DVD but Parole says it lacks Mpeg-2 software. It claims it will install it if "install" is clicked but that does not happen.
Did dnf search on Parole and found only the .x86_64, and 2 devel programs for Parole.
Do I need to install a Mpeg-2 but if so which one?
Do I have a broken/limited version of Parole? Should I remove the current one and install a .x86_64 or a devel one? Which?
Devel ones are .x86_64 and .i686 what is the difference?

I presume you were thinking I had not installed repositories, but yes I have. Tried once again to get Parole to run a DVD and still getting the response that I need mpeg-2 and still getting nothing when I click on install and this after re-installing Parole. Unless someone has a better idea I will start prowling for a substitute just that I like the simplicity of Parole.

for store bought DVD's i normally use VLC
mainly because THE DVD MENU WORKS

Smplayer can most of the time run the menu but not always

gmplayer - gnome default really can not

but
getting multimedia ( movies and music AND DVD's ) to work on fedora was ALWAYS a problem

fedora dose not and will NEVER ship with the patent and copyright encumbered software needed

and recently fedora combined repos and the old multimedia repo is DEAD!!! "rpmforge"

I am amazed at the plethora or programs that might or(?) might not fit someones needs. It is perplexing to try to understand how Fedora can distribute a basic set of software that is functional and works as advertised.

well that IS by definition EXACTLY what fedora is
it is a FAST !!! research and development OS that pushes things past the breaking point , then fixes it
uses the newest of the new ( including gcc )
Gcc is often SO NEW that not much software will build with out hacking it

and things change VERY FAST
fedora is often the FIRST OS to use new things

pulse audio in fedora 6 - the first on the block to use it
SystemD again the first to use this

I am very appreciative of that info.
I have been looking for a backup system to Slackware, should the director become incapacitated, and liked Fedora but there are just TOOOOO many mistakes made when effective management should see them. If they want users to modify software, then they should put that software into a separate repository and label it. Apps which attend a release should be as tested as the OS.
It is too obvious tho I didn't want to accept it until U clued me in to what I have suspected. Fast is good but with soooo many things thrown in as useful when not, I will NEVER suggest to my programming students to use it for homework.
