I've tried literally dozens of flavors of Linux and none except Kanotix will recognize my Nvidia card. Apparently no Linux version supports Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ AGP 8X. I have found the drivers but all I have is a prompt. How do I get these drivers from the website where they are at into my machine so I can install them?

What do you mean by "recognize"?

nvidia cards are usually supported by the nv driver which comes in your kernel.

Which drivers, where, how did you attempt to install them? Did you install fedora in graphical or text mode? Which release of fedora is installed? At the prompt, what happens if you enter "startx"?

Which drivers? Which website? How are you connecting to the internet?

The livna repository holds nvidia drivers for fedora.
Enable the repository and use yum.

Note: your card seems no longer supported by nvidia - you will need one of the legacy drivers.

Note: it is a bad idea to use improperly packaged drivers with fedora, use the repos whenever you can.

By recognize I mean produce a screen of readable characters, not the blinking meaningless colored boxes that I now see.

When I used any "live CD" at the end I got a screenful of these blinking colored boxes. The same happened when I installed Fedora, blinking boxes. If I booted in text mode I could get a prompt.

Yes on the note that I need legacy drivers. That's the problem... how can I get these drivers from the Nvidia site to my machine since all I have is a prompt. I have no firefox, conqueror or any sort of program to download so I need to get them from the prompt.

I installed in text mode since all I got with graphics was unreadable garbage. I also tried changing the driver to Vesa in the conf in /etc/X11/ and that only produced a black screen.

From the prompt, enter:

rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-8.rpm

yum install kmod-nvidia
yum install kmod-nvidia-96xx
yum install kmod-nvidia-legacy

The first one is the standard driver - the second adds support for the geForce4 cards to the standard driver... so it may be all you need. The last is for the legacy driver.

Be warned: you have already used the nvidia installer. It may have toasted your entire X install. These methods may not work as a result.

Note: fedora has several, full function, text-mode browsers.
