No way to read NTFS in Fedora?

I got an error when I tried to mount my ntfs partition under Fedora. It said it wasn't supported under this kernal version or something like that. I found a HOW-TO but it said Redhat doesn't support NTFS. So is therre no way to access a ntfs partition with this distro?

Thanks,
Jason

NTFS support is in the Livna repository. If you have Livna in your set of yum repos, you can just:

yum -y install kernel-module-ntfs

Otherwise, you can download the version that matches your kernel release and architecture from here, and issue the command (for example):

rpm -Uvh kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.10-1.760_FC3-2.1.22-0.lvn.1.3.i686.rpm

In addition to installing the NTFS kernel driver you will need to create a mount point to access it and add the partition to your /etc/fstab script.

To create the windows mount point do this:

In a terminal as root (su), cd to the /mnt directory.
Type mkdir windows.

You now need to make the NTFS 'windows' partition mountable.
To add the windows partition to your fstab do this:

In a terminal as root (su), type gedit /etc/fstab (I use gedit, but you can use whatever editor you like).

The following sample fstab NTFS line gives read only user permissions to 'steve' and 'root' on hda1.
Please remember, this is an example only.
It may even work for you if you change the user from 'steve' to whatever user you want.
You should check the HOW-TO to help you with the exact parameters you will need.

/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs ro,umask=0222,uid=steve 0 0

The NTFS partition is read only because writing from Linux to an NTFS partition has the potential to corrupt the NTFS partition so it is not supported. I have heard that it can be done, but I have never tried it.
