No sound on Toshiba Equium A60

Hi all. I have a problem with the AC'97 soundcard on my Toshiba Equium A60 laptop - basically there's no sound. I have Fedora Core 4 installed, and though the "soundcard detect" utility does identify the soundcard, there is still no sound. I had this before with Fedora Core 3, but when I ran yum update it suddenly worked. Unfortunately though I've run yum update on Core 4, and it hasn't worked. So, please can anyone give me any pointers to get it working? I'd really appreciate it!

Did you try alsamixer? I had that problem,too. My laptop is also toshiba but not the same model with yours. Run alsamixer and set the sound mixer.

Hi there! You know what, I had tried alsamixer before, but with no luck. This time I ran it, and I promise you I didn't change a thing, but blow me for whatever magical reason the sound has started bloomin' working! YAY!

Obviously I'm a bit confused. I just wonder if I tried alsamixer when I was having the problem on Core 3, but not on Core 4... I just can't remember. Anyway, problem solved, brilliant!
