No sound Fedora 3

Why would I have no sound from either soundcard on my FC III box? Both cards work fine if I boot the Win XP hdd. Both cards are detected, but neither will play a test sound or any sound for any reason! [snd-emu10K1] is the module given for both cards and even the onboard snd-via82xx won't work.

Are you using alsa? If not... try it.

mohapi 03-09-2005 07:49 PM

Tried that. No dice.

A). Did you run alsaconf?
B). Make sure that you are a member of the Audio group.

Which sound cards are you using?

Have you tried in a terminal screen ' alsamixer -c 0 ' for the first card and ' alsamixer -c 1 ' for the second card.
When in there check for the following. Make sure none are muted. If muted there is a mm at the top of the bar. To unmute hit the ' m ' key. If you do get sound up type ' alsactl store ' and ' alsactl restore ' to reload sound levels.

On some SB Live cards the spdif channel needs to be muted. If using LS version some versions need to load the emu10k2 module instead of the emu10k1. You will need to download a kernel source and compile that into the kernel. Easy to do check out this post. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...36#post1401136

I ran alsaconf. It asks me if I want to "modify /etc/modprobe.conf" while it is configuring snd-emu10k1. Now this is for my EMU 0404 card. Supposedly it is the Creative Labs SB Audigy as far as Linux/Alsa is concerned. These are my logs for the event

Mar 9 21:15:24 localhost alsasound: Starting sound driver snd-emu10k1 succeeded
Mar 9 21:15:24 localhost alsasound: Starting sound driver snd-emu10k1 succeeded
Mar 9 21:15:24 localhost alsasound: Starting sequencer succeeded
Mar 9 21:15:26 localhost alsasound: Starting sequencer driver snd-emu10k1-synth succeeded
Mar 9 21:15:26 localhost alsasound: Starting sequencer driver snd-seq-midi succeeded
Mar 9 21:15:26 localhost alsactl: /usr/sbin/alsactl: relocation error: /usr/sbin/alsactl: symbol snd_config_top, version ALSA_0.9 not defined in file libasound.so.2 with link time reference
Mar 9 21:15:26 localhost alsasound: Restoring sound driver settings failed

And when I try to do the same with the SB Live soundcard:
Loading driver...
ALSA driver already running
Starting sound driver snd-emu10k1 [ OK ]
Starting sound driver snd-emu10k1 [ OK ]
Starting sequencer [ OK ]
Starting sequencer driver snd-emu10k1-synth [ OK ]
Starting sequencer driver snd-seq-midi [ OK ]
Restoring sound driver settings /usr/sbin/alsactl: relocation error: /usr/sbin/alsactl: symbol snd_config_top, version ALSA_0.9 not defined in file libasound.so.2 with link time reference
[FAILED]
Setting default volumes...
So it seems that something fails here in the "Restoring sound driver settings"

Hi Everybody,
I'm Praveen,a new Linux user. I recently installed FC3 on my system with Intel 915GAV motherboard. This has inbuilt sound card which works alright with Windows XP. But with FC3, I get no sound. While running alsamixer, I get following message:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

Since, I am new user of linux, I do not know what to do next to make my system singing on linux also. So, I'm writing you all for help. I shall highly appreciate your valuable suggestions. Looking forwarf for your reply.
Regards
